The power of playdough
Fine motor skills: As children roll, squeeze, and knead playdough, they strengthen their fingers and hands and improve their dexterity. The development of fine motor skills is crucial for their physical development and prepares them for writing, drawing, and everyday skills, such as buttoning a jacket or tying their shoelaces!
Hand-eye coordination: By molding playdough, children learn to coordinate the movement of their hands with their eyes. With the use of tools, such as stamps, this skill is further developed, as the child must aim correctly to imprint the design on the dough.
Language & social skills: When playing with playdough with others, children practice listening and speaking with friends, siblings, and adults, enriching their vocabulary and learning to share, collaborate, and find solutions together.
Emotional development: Creating with playdough makes children feel capable and proud of what they make, as there is no right or wrong way to play. Hitting, flattening, and squeezing the dough is a healthy and safe way to release their energy and helps them manage their intense emotions calmly.
Cultivates imagination and creativity: Through role-playing, children express their ideas. Playdough encourages symbolic thinking: one moment it's a ball, the next it's the sun, and it can become anything they imagine!
